Initially, the server was made to replace and update Forgotten World.
Back in 2014, the idea came up to move the server from Sphere 51a to the open source RunUO code.
After long work on the server, the engine was renamed RunFW. The work lasted until January 2017.
During this time, most of the mechanics began to resemble a sphere. However, there was an acute issue with transferring all things and items from the sphere save to the new engine.
There was also a lack of thorough tests to check all the mechanics and after the interest faded, the work was stopped for 2 years.
After the implementation of the Orion client on Forgotten World in January 2019. The idea of combining the new core and the Orion client appeared, which would give a second life to FWUO.
Already in May 2019 work on the server continued and the transition was planned for July 2019.
Since many different items and other changes were added to the main FWUO server during the downtime, the FW Team decided to finish writing the necessary items for the transfer in an accelerated mode, and make the remaining edits and changes after the transition. For this, Hotride quickly made a Launcher, and Ryuk quickly threw together a simple design.
But after the first attempt to transfer the server, it became clear that the core was too raw and transfer in this form was simply not possible.
Work on the project continued, and FWUO entered the stage of development freeze.
Months passed, closed and open tests were held.
Some players were so interested in the new core that they happily tested the server for various kinds of bugs.
A new website with a personal account was even written, where players could manage their accounts from one place. A whole internal account with their own private forums appeared for guilds. The vendors (traders) section received a completely new and convenient interface. Where Azurre became the main implementer of ideas and plans.
However, their efforts alone were not enough, comprehensive tests were needed that could reveal all aspects and nuances.
Thus, in 2021, after another attempt to transfer the server, it was decided to leave the idea of the transfer, and FWUO will continue its work on the 51st sphere and 203 client and the orion implemented in January 2019.
In March 2021, the project called RunFW was closed. And the site and server are included under the 51st sphere.
Already in June 2021 a discussion took place about what to actually do with the remaining developments.
After some short discussions, we decided to try to launch the server, as they say, "from scratch".
The idea of the server was to make an interesting server with references to other once legendary games. Such as Diablo and Arcanum, as well as other interesting projects.
The name "Legnes" itself comes from the abbreviation "Legendary Games".
Already in July 2021 a new logo and launcher design were developed.
On August 18, 2021 the Legnes.com domain was registered and from that day on the official start of the project is considered.
Unfortunately, not all developers wanted to work on a project with an unclear development prospect. Therefore, Creator and Hotride remained the main developers.
FW Assist was left as an assistant, it was decided to abandon the 203rd client.
From August to November 2021 the main work was carried out to adapt the server for new needs, and some players could catch this period in alpha testing mode. The server was already available, but there was no announcement of it in the Ultima Online community yet.
Not only the launcher, but also the server's Gumps were subject to changes.
In general, the visual part received a new concept in a woodland style.
On November 17, 2021 the first post was written on the UOkit forum, stating that the server was operating as an independent project.
On January 31 and 1 the first meeting of the New Year for Legnes players took place.
A special New Year's quest was invented as a festive event, with a search for items and crafting.
2022 has arrived, and with it completely new challenges.
Of course, these were mainly fixes to existing bugs and the addition of localization.
The server core initially supports Russian and English, which could be selected in the Help menu.
The localization concerned some server messages or texts.
On July 23, 2022 due to the incompatibility of UO-Pilot with the client, some scripts were added to FW Assist to simplify the game.
And already on August 18, 2022, the server celebrated its first year of sa
